Why It Exists
Independent roasters work hard to build something of their own, but traditional channels can make it difficult to be discovered, connect directly with customers, and maintain healthy margins.
We’re building a place where independent roasters can share their stories, reach new customers, and grow on their own terms while staying connected to the craft that makes them unique.
From the Founder
Small Batch Coffee Exchange was created by Ron Maclure, a small-batch coffee roaster with over 36 years of experience. Like many independent roasters, his journey was built on passion, persistence, and a deep connection to his community, but also the constant challenge of staying profitable.
Over the years, Ron explored every path available: selling at markets, running a local coffee shop, and eventually moving into wholesale. While each step brought growth, it also meant longer hours, tighter margins, and increasing pressure competing with larger, corporate coffee companies.
After decades in the industry, one thing became clear. Independent roasters needed a better way to support themselves and each other. Small Batch Coffee Exchange was created from that realization: a shared platform where small-batch roasters can connect directly with customers, gain national visibility, and grow without sacrificing their craft or independence.
At its core, the Exchange is about creating opportunity: making it easier for independent roasters to sustain their businesses, support their communities, and continue doing the work they care about.
